Antibodies or immunoglobulin’s are large proteins that are generally produced by the plasma cells to neutralize pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Antibodies function by recognizing a unique molecule on the pathogen which is called an Antigen. The antibody then binds the antigen based on the specificity. The Antibody-Antigen binding can carry out a diverse set of functions which include neutralization, precipitation, agglutination, complement activation etc.
Antibodies vary in structure and function based on numerous factors. They can be nonspecific, bi-specific or polyvalent based on how many different antigens they can bind. The source of the antigen such as rabbits, horses, humans etc. also decides the species reactivity. Furthermore, antibodies could be conjugated or unconjugated, primary or secondary and so on.
In biological research, many assays utilize antigen-antibody reactions to detect target protein. Usually, it involves ELISA based experiments, which can be carried out conveniently using commercially available kits. Green genome offers various products for antigen-antibody assays, which include primary and secondary antibodies, purified proteins, controls, conjugated antibodies, peptides, enzymes, assay kits, recombinant proteins etc.
